the examiner will inspect your licence (both parts), ask if the address is your current address (don't worry if this address is out of date). The examiner will ask, ‘Would you like your instructor/accompanying driver to accompany you on the test and be there for the result and end of test feedback?'.
At the start of the practical test the examiner will ask you read a number plate from the appropriate distance. The examiner will then ask you one of the Show Me/Tell Me question combinations –your instructor will make sure you are well prepared for this. The test itself lasts around 40 minutes.

From 5th October 2010, you will be asked to perform one of the following manoeuvres:
- A parallel park behind a parked car
- A turn in the road (often referred to as a 'three-point turn')
- A left-hand reverse around a corner
- A bay park (unusual in Worthing)
as well as an emergency stop.
During the test the examiner is watching the standard of your driving but also your awareness of the road ahead and situations occurring around you. You are allowed to make 15 minor faults, so long as you do not continually make the same minor fault. No serious or dangerous faults are allowed.
Also from 5th October 2010, part of the test will include “Independent Driving” – this will entail following directions using road signs for perhaps 10 minutes of the test. You will only be asked to carry out one of the reversing exercises. |
